Inviting a speaker in

We have been practicing exam questions in class. We brainstormed the answers to the following questions. Here is what we came up with.

 

You have invited a speaker to your LCVP class. Outline how you would evaluate this visit and state why you chose each one.

1. Class discussion

You can see how much was learned from the visit

Comments can be made straight away/elaborated on

Chosen as easy to organise/quick, no need to prepare for this activity

Students practice speaking out in public

All students can be included easily

2. Class questionnaire

Make out questions to see how much was learned

Chosen because replies are confidential

Inexpensive to operate

Easy to collate results

Good response rate will be obtained

Objective because all students get same questions

3. Ask Teacher/Speaker opinion

Very easy to do

No cost

Teacher will be a good judge

Good way to give feedback to students

4. Written report

Students can have individual reports

Easy to see what students learned

Use of ICT skills can be measured

5. Comparison with another visit

To see if the organisation has improved

To see if anything further was learned

To highlight differences between different visits made (location etc)

Evaluating an event

Describe any way that the organisation of a careers exhibition could be evaluated.

Give the reasons for choosing each.   

Ways to evaluate:

1.      Ask exhibitors/teachers/parents for their opinion.

a.       These views are important as the school will need them to return another time.

b.      Easy to do as an evaluation sheet can be prepared in advance/given out on the night.

2.      Get feedback from questionnaires from those who attended/parents & students/teachers.

a.       Did they learn anything new.

b.      Easy to do on the night.

3.      Measure if aims/objectives were met.

a.       Did the activity come in on budget?

b.      Problems that arose on the night.

4.      Class discussion.

a.       Disagreements can be solved.

b.      Varying opinions are taken.

5.      Written evaluation

a.       Quality of portfolio item

b.      Report on exhibition.

The importance of Evaluation

Why is it important to evaluate an activity?

Answer:

1. To assess if aims were met/what worked well.
2. You find out what did not go well and why.
3. You can take corrective action if activity is still ongoing.
4. You are informed for future activities.
5. Individual team members can be evaluated.
